About us

St. Thomas Orthodox Chapel, Niranam central, The Church belongs to Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church under Niranam Diocese. came into existence as a small congregational wing (Prayer Group) of the parent church, St. Mary’s Orthodox church Niranam,(Niranam valiya pally). This happened in the early sixties, with a view of promoting spiritual awareness and a feeling of fellowship among the Orthodox Christian families, numbering about 45-50, living in the niranam central.

"The new church was formally consecrated and dedicated to St. Thomas, the Patron Saint of India, The first Holy Qurbana in this chapel was celebrated by H.G. Mar Thoma Dionysius tirumeni. This beginning was made in November, 1965."

Heartened by the amazing response and unprecedented enthusiasm evoked among the congregation, the idea of building a permanent church was conceived and implemented in right earnest. The new church was formally consecrated and dedicated to St. Thomas, the Patron Saint of India, The first Holy Qurbana in this chapel was celebrated by Rev Fr. Tharakan Achen. This beginning was made in November, 1966.


The Church is 1.5 KM away from Niranam valiya pally, 200 meters away from Mulamoottil padi and 500 meters away from Elenjikal chantha. Holy Qurbana is celebrating in alternate Sundays and special days. Evening prayer is conducting in all Saturdays. Prayer meeting is organized in houses in saturdays. The various active organizations are Sunday school, Youth Movement, Students Movement and Marthamariyam Samajam. The church is consisting of 55 families.

The Church Madhbaha is blessed with three Thronose. The main Thronose is constructed in the name of St.Thomas, North Thronose is built in the name of St. Gregorios of Parumala and South Thronose is built in the name of St. Mary’s.

The main perunnal of church is on February, in memory of Saint Thomas Apostole. on august in memory of St.Mary and in november in memory of Saint Gregorious (parumala tirumeni) As time progressed infrastructure was further developed with sophisticated additions to suit the requirements of a modern church. Notable among them are a small Parish Hall with a Parsonage and two Kurishum Thotti dedicated to both st. thomas and St Gregorios of Parumala. A beautiful flag pole (kodimaram). The Vicar of our church is Rev. Fr Joseph A and our Diocesan Bishop is H.G. Dr. Yuhanon Mar Crysostomos.
